On October 9th, the Suffield High School girls volleyball teams traveled to Windsor Locks for what was expected to be a big victory. From the first serve it quickly became clear that Suffield would end up winning this match. The team took an early lead, and never gave it up, turning the game into a clear showcase of their skill, chemistry, and determination. With strong communication, good plays, and consistent energy, Suffield controlled the game from start to finish – ultimately walking away with the win.
This victory wasn’t just about the team’s athletic skills, it was also a reflection of the team’s resilience this season. Despite losing 3 girls from the starting lineup last year, and injuries with players this year, the girls have pushed through with focus and positivity. Their energy, teamwork, and ability to adapt under pressure have been key to their success so far this season.
Before the game, we were able to catch up with two members of the team who offered a glimpse into what the team’s mindset looks like this year. Lauren Lawson, a sophomore, highlighted the team’s energy and confidence, “our team brings a long string of positivity, and wins, and confidence” she said. That belief was fully shown during their game against Windsor Locks.

I also spoke with junior captain Peyton Libby, who’s been sidelined this season due to a knee injury. Even though she’s not able to play, her leadership continued to have a strong impact. “I think cheering and having a good attitude all around can really help bring up the team on the court” Libby said. Her cheering and encouragement as well as everyone else’s on the bench played a big role in keeping the team connected, on their toes, and focused.
As the season heads into its final stretch, the Suffield girls volleyball team keeps showing that their strength isn’t just about skill. It’s about leadership, and a high spirit on and off the court. The win from Windsor Locks was just another reminder of what they can achieve when they play together.
