The Suffield High School’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance hosted their very first event of the year this past October. New for the club, Hennaween was introduced as the first Halloween event that highlighted henna tattoos as the center attraction.

GSA senior, Kai Skorupski, was the henna artist in charge of sharing her artistic creativity with the litany of students who attended. All students who showed left with custom-made designs in henna that stained for the following few weeks.

The GSA has been busy at work this past school year planning and crafting activities for upcoming months. Events like Hennaween, the Annual Hot Chocolate Social, Wellness Day, and many others have been in the works since September.

The GSA has sadly skipped over Friendsgiving this year, but was back in full swing early January for the Hot Chocolate Social which continuously draws in attention due to its bubbly and fun atmosphere that’s just a bit sweeter with the showcasing of hot cocoa and many other goodies for the students to munch on while making crafts, chatting, and relaxing before Midterms.
There’s been a considerable amount of attendance at each event, but not nearly as much as the club had hoped for or anticipated. A major concern of the members of the club is that there have been certain connotations placed onto the club, showcasing the activities they host as events for only individuals that are directly a member of the LGBTQ+ community. They noted that this wasn’t their intent and that they wish to gather students from all backgrounds and communities.
The GSA wished to remind everyone, especially potential future members, that their doors are open for anyone and everyone. They only ever wish to spread kindness while promoting inclusivity – which their events they host for the entire school body showcase every year. Drawing in crowds of students from all different identities, the GSA truly promotes the inclusion of diversity within the activities they host.
