The talented writers of Suffield High School gathered together to submit three-sentence short stories for The Paw Print. For this challenge, the prompt was a short story about spring!
We had many incredible submissions, but here were our 12 favorite (Not in any particular order):
Caden DeCesare – Junior
My name’s Caden, and I like spring. Spring, spring, spring.
Kouthar Wehelie – Senior
As daybreak finally awakens, the nights eventually fade to sleep with the ambiance of buzzing cicadas and the comforting warmth of abundant stars and beating hearts at last on the move. Our hearts of all kinds are running amok, yet so alive with joy, along with the foliage finally in bloom. The time of revival has come at last. A time to begin anew like the radiant rows of roses, to grow greater like never before, like the mighty redwoods, soar higher than the horizon for life and our dreams, because rebirth, a new beginning for all, has ultimately come.
Saanvi Nalla – Sophomore
The last shards of ice melted into the dirt as bright tulips speared up through the softened ground. In the village, whispers spread – the thaw had come too soon, and something old was waking beneath the woods. By the time the first warm rain fell, the air was thick with the smell of earth…and fear.
Aidan Deveno – Freshman
Spring is the best; it’s the season after winter and before summer. It is warm most of the days but then it’s cold on some days. It rains a lot in spring.
Alivia Mattarazzo – Freshman
The birds are chirping left and right, children jumping in puddles everywhere you look. Flowers blooming in the fields, rain pouring everywhere you go. Peepers peeping in the forest, while the bears are stealing bird seed.
Benjamin Robles – Sophomore
I sleep in on spring break. It’s school vacation. No school on vacation.
Alex Turner – Junior
It is the only best thing you have besides winter. It’s the best thing you can do to play outside and spend the day outdoors. Most of the kids wanted to play outside and some of us wanted to stay inside.
Ryan Daly – Freshman
Spring is a season and the weather is decent. And there is a lot of rain. And there is a break from school which is always good.
Carla Halawi – Freshman
In spring I like the flowers blooming, the birds chirping and the warmer temperature. I also enjoy longer days which is a welcome change after the winter months, and it encourages people to spend more time outdoors. Observing nature come back to life, with new buds, leaves, and animal life, is a source of joy and renewal.
Jordan Rypysc – Junior
Earth Day and Easter happen in the Spring! During Earth Day I pick up trash and recycle stuff. I recycle trash, cans, glass, plastic, paper, bottles, and felt.
Silas Katulka – Sophomore
In spring, the days are longer and it is warmer. You might want to do stuff, but you don’t know what to do. You can have a Water fight/manhunt: In the summer, It gets hot, so you might want to cool off. Here are some things you can do.
- Water fights: You can get your friends over and play multiple games like, capture the flag, free for all, and king of the hill.
- Manhunt (night time only): this is like hide and seek, but you can uses things to fight back like water/Nerf Blasters, and for exaggeration, play it at night
- Eating outside: the nice weather dose grate for outdoor dining at places like Café Barista, Francesco’s, Grassroots, and ice cream places like Dairy Cream, Scoop Du Jour, and Tail Winds.
Kai Skorupski – Junior
Colours fill my vision as I look around the meadow filled with blooming flowers after the morning shower. My fingers trace the petals as I take in the wonders all around me; the memories flooding back of all the happy moments with my brother, trying to catch each other as we rushed through the foliage. This meadow was always our safe-haven, a place where we dared to dream, our futures as beautiful as if we were the words written in the books we clutched in our young hands – futures full of endless laughter and love crafted just for us.
