With the winter blues in full swing, baseball fans still have some time to wait, or hibernate, until we go from pants to shorts and sweatshirts to t-shirts and spring brings back our favorite pastime. While it may seem early to focus on a sport that won’t start for another two months, the buzz surrounding the Suffield boys baseball team has already taken the school by storm.
Suffield is entering the upcoming 2025 baseball season with an exciting team. This team is special not only because of the number of seniors, totalling six, which is double the amount last year, but also because the seniors of this year have played together for the last twelve years. Those players; Logan Bonazelli, Will Winiarski, Noah Schermerhorn, Dashel O’Dell, Colin Faber, and Dylan Holmes will be playing their final time together this highschool season. The team last season tagged along with 3 other seniors and finished the season 3rd in the state, ultimately losing in the State conference to Killingly High School.
Last year the team had an excellent run going almost 6 games straight without a loss, which sets a standard this year to achieve as a team. Colin Faber, a senior shortstop, mentioned how excited he was to play with his peers, “we have a lot of seniors who are capable of leading this team to a NCCC and state championship” he said. Will Winiarski, another senior at centerfield, is confident in the team this season, “I think the baseball season will be very successful. We have a lot of our starters coming back. We are losing only 2 starters and everyone on the team is excited for this upcoming season.” When asked about the potential to win state this year, Will said, “A goal for the season would be to win a state championship. We have the talent, and the chemistry to do so.” The Suffield boys baseball team’s first game is April 5th 2025 at 11am in Enfield.
