Students from Suffield High School gathered with excitement in room 701 to participate in the inclusive Annual Hot Chocolate Social, five years in the running, prepared and hosted by the school’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA). Students from all across the school, from different friend groups and clubs, were in attendance at the social on January 30th. With a heartwarming and fun-filled Hot Chocolate Social, a welcoming space was provided for students to gather and connect, enjoying a warm drink in the company of friends.
The event attracted a diverse group of students from across grade levels, all eager to mingle and make new connections. A lot of attendees were members of the GSA including Sarah Swenson, Az Eckley, Kai Loranger, Kai Skorupski, Caiden White, and Victoria Jacobs, but others were new faces curious about joining the social for good times and good vibes. Conversations were able to flow freely as everyone sipped their hot cocoa, shared stories, and laughed together. For many, it was an amazing opportunity to bond, while others used the occasion to get to know their classmates in a more informal and relaxed setting.
The Hot Chocolate Social was not just about indulging in a delicious drink, but also about crafting a sense of belonging, kindness, and support within the school community. As the event wrapped up and students began to head their separate ways, it was clear that the social achieved its goal of bringing people together in a joyful and inclusive space.
The GSA plans to host more events like this in the future, with the goal of continuing to build a welcoming and accepting atmosphere for students at the school. After the success of the Hot Chocolate Social, it’s clear that the Gender and Sexuality Alliance is making a difference in the lives of students, one cup of cocoa at a time.
