The aroma of coffee, cocoa, and baked goods filled the air as passionate voices and instruments played beautiful melodies in a heartwarming display of talent and community spirit.
Suffield High School welcomed the exceptional musicians of the schools’ Concert Choir, Symphonic Band, and Drama Club on January 29th at the annual Coffeehouse Concert. The event, hosted in the cozy, informal atmosphere of the school cafeteria, brought together over 100 students, teachers, families, and community members to enjoy the concert, sipping on coffee and cocoa.
Each act brought something unique to the table. An expressive ballad opened the show by Sam Melendez, adding an incredible flair to the first performance of the night. The audience was captivated by her raw passion and skill, as well as her love for music shining through every note and lyric.
And closing the show, Julia Toskin and friends brought liveliness and a sense of community to the closing act of the night. Delving into the beautiful melodies of Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield, Toskin was able to draw in a beautiful melody as friends encouraged her with excitement and support before coming in for the end of the song with boisterous energy to close the show.

Raising Funds for Boston
While the event was undoubtedly a celebration of the student’s musical achievements, it also had a very important purpose – to raise funds for the trip the Concert Choir and Symphonic Band are taking to Boston in the spring. Trips that the choir and band host are vital for students who dream of expanding their musical horizons by attending festivals and competitions, performing in new venues, and collaborating with other young musicians. The funds raised from ticket sales for the evening’s raffle will help cover travel, accommodation, and performance costs.
For students, the Boston trip may be a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Not only will it provide them with invaluable experiences and exposure to the wider music community, but it will also foster a greater sense of teamwork and friendship among students.

The Impact of The Coffeehouse Concert
The Coffeehouse Concert wasn’t just a fundraiser; it was an opportunity for students to grow as performers and to strengthen their connection to their school community. The event gave them a chance to step out of their usual classroom environment and perform in front of a live audience, helping to build confidence and stage presence.
The event also highlighted the strong music program at Suffield High School and the impact it has on students’ lives. Choir instructor Mr. Ferreira, who organized the event, was thrilled with how the students had done, especially as the performances were all planned and performed by the students without instruction from an advisor.

A Bright Future Ahead
The Coffeehouse Concert was not only a financial success but a celebration of the students’ musical talent and dedication. Thanks to the hard work of the students, music instructors, and music booster, the students will continue to thrive and experience opportunities to explore their musical passions.
As the night drew to a close, the students and attendees left with a sense of accomplishment and excitement for the trip ahead, knowing they had come together to make something truly special happen.
