After eight months in the mental hospital because he caught his wife cheating on him, Pat Solatano Jr. (Bradley Cooper), a man diagnosed as bipolar is ready to win his wife back. Pat knows he has changed: he has lost weight, has a better outlook on life, and is ready to be there for his wife. With a restraining order put against him, he has no way to talk to Nikki face to face…but what about a letter? Pat’s eagerness to reconcile with Nikki drives him to meet Tiffany Marshall (Jennifer Lawrence), a widowed woman from next door, marking her as his only way to get a message to his wife. But would it change her mind?
